Module 1 – Grantsmanship and Scientific Writing (Prof. I.G. Imumorin)
October 17 – 19, 2016
Grants provide the major source of funding for research, especially for life sciences and lack of grant funding affects ability to do world class research. This course will provide guidance through an intensive writeshop where participants will develop research ideas and actually write a potentially winning proposal over 3 days of the course. The second part of the course will cover important aspects of strong scientific writing for international journals and audiences.   

Module 2 – Basic Statistics and R for Data Analysis (Dr. O.B. Morenikeji)
October 20 – 22, 2016
R is the leading programming language in data science and statistics. Today, R is the tool of choice for data science professionals in every industry and field. This course will cover review of basic statistics including descriptive statistics, probability, statistical distributions and classical hypothesis testing. Overview of the R programming language and environment, data types in R, exploratory data analysis and graphics. Hands-on exercises include installing and configuring R for Windows and simple exploratory data analysis tasks.
